The norton anthology of english literature, vol

Covering the period 1830 khổng lồ 1901, this is a treasure chest. It not only contains a huge sampling of both prose & poetry, but places them inkhổng lồ an historical context.

The introduction to the book gives the reader a broad sweep of what was going on in those seventy odd years (such as the decline of Victorian values, industrialisation, suffrage), và several mini essays throughout provide introductions khổng lồ the writers and their concerns.

The samples work well: a section from Hard Times convinced me to read the full novel, & I discovered a wonderful essay by George Eliot. Highly recommended.

I am currently experimenting with writing articles of exactly 100 words in length. This is one of them.

When you start khổng lồ read a new book, what’s your routine? My routines differ according to whether the book is fiction or non-fiction, & whether I’ve been sent it lớn Reviews or not.

Most press releases are boring. Even worse, some are annoying. And the people who sover them can be even more annoying.

Like Chekhov"s gun (if a gun appears in Act 1, it has to be fired at some point), actions like someone clearing their throat are pointless if they add nothing lớn how we see them as a character.
